Hypnotizing Power: Behind The Editing
One of the biggest challenges in the making of 'Hypnotizing Power: The Story of Master of Puppets' was that there simply isn’t a lot of archive footage of the band from the era in existence. To get around this, footage from a variety of sources had to be manipulated in order to fit the narrative of the story.
This is a selection of some of the composited shots that were put together in the creation of the documentary.
Tools used: Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop

When I was 20 I listened to Kill em all And Ride everyday & me & my friends were counting the days till Metallica put out there next & got a cassette of Master the day it came out instead of the album because my girlfriend had an awesome stereo in her car. I'm surprised the speakers survived that.

Strange that they'd show Rob instead of Jason. Kinda fucked up.

It was Metallica's greatest feat. And Metallica went downhill from that point on.

In my opinion, this album ranks up with some of the best of all time. This is a really well made documentary of it.

I remember hearing them for the first time back in 1985 and they didn't follow any of those other bands that wore makeup and they got called glamour rockers and I was getting tired of them with the exception of Kiss (not glamour rock) Metallica forever 🤘

Ride, Master and Justice is BY FAR Metallica's best albums... Yeah they had Cliff, but all of them was produced by Flemming Rasmussen... I wonder what would have happened if they used him again??

I think James ability to be a-political is what makes the topics he writes about when they do approach political leaning things so good. It's like he's able to criticize the system itself without really having to delve into the biases.

Master is the greatest but today I just want to say thank you to Cliff and all what he brings into Metallica, into music. He was à genius. I love Jason and Robert they are huge too but bro....can you imagine what it could be if Cliff was not fade away and if he was there for all stuffs after Master....??? !!! Waaaaaawwwww all Metalloca familly menbers gonna catch my point . 👍👍💥💥💥💥💥🎸🎙🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 From Belgium

i started highschool in 86, whenever i look back which is far more often than it should be. i am always very reminded of how much Metallica and those first 3 albums meant to me and my group of friends, there was definitely a period where they were everything to us. they were heroes and peers and gods and everything all rolled into one, and just a few years later it was all over. they were just never the same, and i was lder and discovering other things and i was no longer the same either. i basically have paid attention to anything they have done for like 35 years now, but still if you put something from those first 3 albums on and it is a flood of memories, of lost friends, of late nights and long school days, of parties and concerts and clubs. i know ever fraction of a second of every one of those songs and they all affect me, and in the case of Orion it is almost a religious experience. it is so important to me it is like an actual piece of my being, my life would not be the same had that song never been a part of it. and there is this deep feeling of loss for a person that i never even knew, like Cliffs actual soul is contained or remembered in that song. it always makes me emotional and i do not even know what it is, what power it wields but i feel it to the marrow.
